My mother died of cancer when I was in graduate school. She was diagnosed extremely late and died several weeks after her diagnosis. She never received treatment. While raising money is an important part of this event, raising awareness for screening of cancer is my personal charge. Not everyone has the means to get treatment so this event is wonderful in that it supports our neighbors seeking treatment. Please assist by donating or by simply taking the time to talk to your primary care about getting screened for cancer. You could also do both!
