in 2020, my friend Tara created the group Maine Peak Seekers after the start of COVID-19, in an effort to get out and hike the many trails and mountains across the state. For quite a while, we were doing monthly and sometimes even weekly hikes together. That same year, a group of our friends did the virtual EMMC Champion the Cure Challenge and went on a couple of group hikes specifically for the cause - to raise awareness as well as money for cancer research. The cool thing about EMMC Champion the Cure Challenge is that all of the money raised stays local!

Unfortunately, now the EMMC Champion the Cure Challenge holds an even greater meaning and purpose to me and my friends - Tara fought a courageous battle with ovarian cancer through the spring of 2023. That same year, we decided to start a Maine Peak Seekers team in honor of Tara as well as all of our loved ones who have been touched by cancer in one way or another.
