Welcome to My Personal Page
Hello,
My name is Amanda Lapointe and I am a graduate of the McAuley Residence. When I arrived at the McAuley Residence in 2018, I had lost myself, my family, and everything that had ever meant anything to me. I did not recognize myself anymore and knew I needed to change. I knew I could not keep living this way
or I would die. I decided to seek out additional help, beyond rehab. I needed a more in-depth recovery program that a 30-day rehab could not provide for me. I needed the McAuley Residence. The McAuley Residence provided me the stability and support to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is an integral aspect of recovery, and it allowed me to be open and fully honest about my addiction for the first time. Addiction is a disease that drives people to isolate themselves from others and the McAuley Residence offers the opportunity to forge positive and healthy relationships. That was something lacking in my life. I had pushed everyone who cared for me out of my life. I found my self-worth through the groups and classes that McAuley provided for me. I found confidence in myself and no longer felt the need to hide who I was and because of that, I created a support system that was crucial for my recovery.
When I first arrived at McAuley, my daughter was in state custody and living with my parents. McAuley supported me in getting custody back and provided me with parenting classes that were helpful and informative. They taught me how to be a sober and present parent for my daughter. The McAuley Residence helped me realize my own potential. I am now a college student with a 4.0 GPA and will be graduating with a degree in medical assisting next spring. Today, I have a great relationship with my family again and spend time with them regularly. I graduated from the McAuley Residence almost 3 years ago now and I continue to attend the aftercare group they provide to past residents and residents getting ready to leave. I like having that connection to McAuley even after graduating because I genuinely believe the life I was meant to live started the moment I walked through their doors. I will forever be grateful for them.
